building collective resilience
ASSITEJ International has been awarded a major grant from the European Union for a three year project, This grant recognises the importance of the performing arts in the lives of children & young people and the work ASSITEJ does in connecting and unifying practitioners all over the world. The grant covers the period of 2022-2024 and the activities are strongly connected to the ASSITEJ Artistic Gatherings and World Congress events in Sweden, Serbia and Cuba.
Small size Network is an affiliated partner, with a small share of its own financing which brings us bigger support to develop communications in the Network, to share our expertise and to research our audiences.
master classes
Open events that take place in Assitej Gatherings and Congress, consisting in a group guided vision of performances for early years with discussion before and after, led by experienced artists.
The first edition took place in BIBU in May 2022, when Barbara Kölling, artistic Director of Helios theatre was invited to lead a Master Class: "Thinking about artistic creation for early years". (The two shows for early years were Saltbush by Insite Arts and Compagnia TPO, and Snö by Dockteatern Tittut)
Barbara's inspiring presentation and the discussions were recorded and they will be seen in Virtual House when it is reopened.
research
In the frame of Building Collective Resilience, Small size proposed to work on a research/report on how small children are perceived in different countries, cultures, communities and institutional settings and how that reflects, shapes and challenges artistic processes and performances. Intended audience of the final research product are members of Small size and ASSITEJ – artists, producers, festival leaders. The material should be collected by December 2023 and presented between March and April 2023 within a seminar and during the ASSITEJ World Congress of Cuba - May 2024.

virtual house
This is an idea being developed as part of the Assitej EU project. |t will have various rooms to connect
-
The Hall: the entrance with the brochure as an introduction
-
The Salon: for seminars and professional workshops
-
The TV room: short films
-
The Study: research and resources
-
The Kitchen: for chatting more informally
We are exploring how this might work in the future beyond the Assitej gatherings – watch this space!
